Carla has both a Master of Arts in Mental Health, Marriage and Family Counseling from Sam Houston State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from The University of Texas at Brownsville. She is an Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (AADC) with the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC), a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) in Texas, Master Certified Addictions Professional (MCAP) and Certified Trauma Therapist (CTT) with the Florida Certification Board. In addition, she holds a certification in EAGALA (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association) for Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, and Natural Lifemanship, a certificate to conduct family mediation and is partnered with the Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury (DCoE). Carla Staats is President of Staats Behavioral Health Consulting, LLC.
Her professional experience includes working with military service members, veterans and civilian adults and adolescents in both residential, outpatient and short-term retreat settings. Carla’s work focuses on assisting clients, both individuals and groups, in replacing unhealthy habits with more effective solution-producing behaviors to the enhancement of each client’s lifestyle and relationships. Her unique approach of mind, body, and spirit combined with her affinity for people and horses has guided her enduring interest in equine-assisted learning. As a horse owner and Equine Professional, Carla recognizes the vast potential for understanding and growth through connections between humans and horses. She believes in the power of healing through our connected relationships.
Carla has worked with the following groups: V.E.T Foundation,Veteran Employment Transition, Care Coalition, Lone Survivor Foundation, Wounded Warrior Project, Operation Homefront, MacDill AFB Family Readiness, Brian Billl Foundation, James A. Haley VA Hospital, Bay Pines/Bill Young VA, and others. She worked with Quantum Leap Farm 11 years where she brought her trademarked At E.A.S.E Program and co-developed the WMAE-Warrior Mission: At Ease Retreats held there.
In addition, Carla is a Tele-Behavioral Health provider and a certified Brain Health Coach with The Amen Clinic.
